"Be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the Universe, no less than the trees or the stars. You have a right to be here, and whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should" Max Ehrmann

Most of us spend so much time running away from ourselves. It might be through too much thinking, constantly trying to work things out in your head. If you keep trying to work out which way you are going you miss all of the magic.’ I remember reading or hearing somewhere that ‘Life is not a textbook, it’s an adventure’.

Meditation can be simply focusing on something – usually the breath. Practicing the focus allows us with time to calm our bodies, physically, emotionally and mentally. We begin to feel more at peace within ourselves and we find that we find it easier to deal with all of the happenings of life. We can become more focused and able to stay on task with a goal.

Meditation can also be a way to become aware of who you are – the bigger you, your Higher Self and Spirit. This can be a wonderful experience and allows us to feel how expanded we can be in our lives, and how the smaller day to day things don’t matter like they used to. We get in touch with more of our potential and know that we are not alone. We feel supported and with practice we are able to be with that more and more as we go about our day.

There are so many benefits to meditation. It may assist in lowering stress, anxiety, blood pressure. It may help us with learning and retaining what we learn. It can help to strengthen our immune system because it is less taxed by stress – and so much more. And we can start very simply bit by bit adding to our experience and ability to stay with ourselves and let go of the interfering mental chatter.

The main key is to ideally make your meditation time at the same time and place each day. Our bodies love routine and they get used to sitting much more quickly and easily when it is consistently practiced at the same time.

So give yourself the gift of sitting with yourself each day. Even if it starts with 10 mins a day, when done consistently you will notice the difference over time. It’s not so much the amount of time – although 20 mins is the ideal – it is more the consistency that builds the ability to be still.

You CAN do it – and your body will appreciate you for it.
